Rey Resendez
Meet the photographer
Rey Resendez (they/he) is a photographer born in La Paz, Bolivia and raised in Queens, New York.
Their work is shaped by lived experience and a life between cultures, with a focus on how people create a sense of home, identity, and belonging. Through portraiture and documentary photography, Rey pays close attention to the quiet moments and everyday details that often go unnoticed.
Rey’s approach to photography is grounded in care, presence, and collaboration. Building trust with the people they photograph is central to their process, allowing images to develop through genuine connection rather than performance.
Alongside their independent practice, Rey is the curator and mentor behind Through Our Own Eyes, an exhibition developed in collaboration with UnLocal. This nonprofit supports immigrant communities in New York City. Through this project, Rey mentored immigrant participants in photography and supported them in sharing their own stories through images.
Rey also publishes photography and writing through Modern Rey, their Substack newsletter, where their visual work is accompanied by reflections on community, memory, and everyday life.
